My name is Jamie, I am a massive gamer, I have been doing trials since 2016 & I still get excited to come to the clinic! If only for the guilt free time on the Xbox!
I originally heard about trials through a work friend who did a trial whilst at university. He said they were a great source of income, a chance to meet new people and he felt that he helped massively with the development of new medicines!
I did think it was possibility an exaggeration.
A few medical procedures – gaming most of the day – eating great food – and being paid for all the above, sounds too good to be true!
As I am in my 7th year of volunteering it really is as simple as completing the screening assessment & booking on! (plus staying as healthy as I can to be eligible for the panel)
When I googled my friend’s suggestion, and as I am Nottingham born & bred – it was a no brainer. I clicked ‘start the experience’ I have never looked back!
Curiosity has got the better of me & volunteers always share their stories – the good the bad and the bruised arms! I have done induction days and screenings elsewhere but I always end up picking trials at Quotient. I like the familiar, the staff, the same friendly faces – the way the staff remember not only my name – but my hobbies! And that I don’t like custard on my puddings – but on the side!
Why do you take part in trials all my close friends have asked.
I take part in trials because it helps financially support my studying, it's nice to know that a trial that I take part in could also save someone's life in the future! It is also a nice break from life, it almost feels like a holiday that I am getting paid for because the staff and everybody are so friendly. The facilities are great too. The outside area in the new Oak clinic is a place I am looking forward to spending time in this year. A pool table – table tennis – outdoor eating – fingers crossed my next study is dosed over there!
I use my inconvenience allowance to pay for home improvements, online courses and saving for a mortgage. In these times I wouldn’t be able to even dream of owing my own home – but with savvy saving and the ability to do studies – I really am living the dream!
Quotient Sciences have a great refer a friend process - I have recommended close friends and got paid too!
Quotient has a great community vibe to it - I have made a lot of friends here and I would say I have made some close friends who I still WhatsApp when I see good studies come up!!
As well as a massive gamer – I love food & trying new things!!
The food here is amazing, I love the muffins and the best meal is the dinner. It’s always homemade & is so tasty! There is so many options to pick from, and even when on a long study you don’t eat the same dish twice.
The food options are also very multicultural with dishes I haven’t tried before - even vegetarian packed full of flavour.
The majority of my time in clinic is spent gaming and chatting to other volunteers, I love to hear their stories of why they volunteer & what they do with their allowances.
I currently work and study from home - so I am able to fit trials around my schedule quite easy – its great – feels like am getting paid twice!
I can’t see me not doing studies in the next few years – life without Quotient isn’t a thing! I feel like it’s part of my life – as much as I feel a part of Quotients!
If you want to own your own home – travel the world – or just relax in a great environment – click their link too – have a read of the other volunteers’ stories – they are all real - all our own words!
Let your journey start now…they really do need you!
